Northwoods Log Homes is a manufacturer of precision built log structures. Because we are not just a dealer, we have complete control over the quality of our products. From the purchasing of the raw materials to every aspect of production, including construction, we make sure that the home you buy meets your expectations in every aspect of production, design and construction.

Northwoods Log Homes has been standing behind its product since we built our first log home in 1956. A family owned business since we began operations, Northwoods Log Homes has shipped homes and commercial buildings to 23 states. You simply don’t do this without developing a reputation for standing by your products.

We strongly encourage you to visit us at our headquarters in Laporte, Minnesota. During your visit we can show you up to 10 homes within five miles of our office where we served as both manufacturer and general contractor. There is no better way for you to see the focus we put on customer service and our commitment to quality than by touring some of our model homes. By visiting us you will get a first-hand view of the processes we use to assist clients with all elements of the home building process. From design through construction, we provide the professional services you need to make your vision for log home living become your home.

Northwoods Log Homes is noted for our advanced design, spring-loaded through log bolting system. This innovative fastening system facilitates settling and provides builders with a reliable, efficient and extremely accurate assembly process. This makes your home better built and its walls far less likely to shift or warp. This process is a hallmark of Northwoods’ commitment to quality, but we have also developed a unique rigid foam roof system and a pre-cut log deck system that makes it easy to add quality outdoor living space to your home. All of these innovative techniques and strategies provide you with a wide range of building options.

We also provide unsurpassed precision in our manufacturing process. By offering techniques such as plunge cut rafter joinery and precision log milling we exceed industry standards for quality. This not only adds to the esthetic appeal of our homes, it also provides our clients with the value added benefit of an efficient construction process.

Northwoods Log Homes understands that finding your property is a good challenge, but fitting your home to that property requires a perfect marriage between the house and the land. Our staff can give you advice about how to position your house properly on your lot. We can also help you select the right land or choose the portion of your land that provides just the right outside space for your inside space. It’s not really rocket science; it just takes the kind of experience we have after nearly six decades of helping people build their homes. Ask about this service. You might be pleasantly surprised with the ideas we have about using your land to enhance your privacy, the views of your world and the function of your home.

As we begin to work with clients we share with them information about our product and our manufacturing techniques. As you learn about us, we learn about you and the ideas you have about the home you want to build. This process may bring us to your site for a consultation, or it may put us at the drawing board with you while you review floor plans from some of the 1,000 plus designs we have in stock. This process will help us develop a total project cost and an estimate of the time-line for the production of your home. It will also provide us with the information we need to develop the documents necessary to produce and build your home. Once we reach this stage we can help you facilitate the remaining steps of the process, from working with your builder to move the project into the construction phase to helping you find the right builder to get the job done. One thing you need to know is this. We believe that our job is not complete until you are settled into your new home.

Northwoods Log Homes produces high quality, precision-built log structures that are unsurpassed in the quality of our construction. Because we are a complete manufacturer, we gain efficiencies with our processes and techniques that help us maintain a very competitive pricing structure. Our materials only log homes packages range from $55 to $65 per square foot for the heated, livable space of the home (space that has adequate headroom to be usable), depending upon the complexity of the structure, the number of corners, roofline, etc. Generally, as the size of the livable space increases, the cost per square foot decreases.

Our cost for complete building materials packages includes all materials, erecting and finishing the structure on an unfinished block basement or foundation. Due to the tremendous variation in materials available and design elements possible it is difficult to provide an accurate cost estimate for a completed home without extensive consultation. However, as a guideline, use the materials only cost estimate (based upon livable square footage) and multiply this figure by 2.5 to 3.5 (depending upon amenities) to give you a beginning estimate. Then add to this the cost of your land and any landscaping you need to do to finish the project.

While we have over 1000 existing floor plans that you can choose from, we are also very willing to manufacture a home to your specifications. For many people, their home starts from one of our standard floor plans and evolves into a custom design based upon their own ideas and needs. The important thing to remember is that we can help you through all phases of the project regardless of how your plan is developed.

Northwoods Log Homes supports clients with the level of expertise necessary to complete the project. For some clients, who have the capacity to do much of the work themselves, the role Northwoods plays in the construction process may be primarily advisory. Other clients may have a relationship with a builder and an agreement with that builder that allows them to do parts of the construction process themselves. Northwoods provides whatever level of support it takes to turn your building project into a dream home. Our capacity to provide precision pre-cutting, user friendly production drawings, and site supervision if necessary, makes our homes very “do it yourself” friendly.

You can, but you don’t have to. Northwoods Log Homes can recommend a builder who is well qualified to construct your home. We do not take this task lightly because we know that the builder has to satisfy you before you are going to be satisfied with us. If you would rather you can also use our general contracting services. Since we have been building Northwoods log homes for over 50 years, there is no one around who knows our products and assembly processes better than we do.

Log Homes CouncilNorthwoods Log Homes is a member of the Log Homes Council and Energy Committee, a log home advocacy group that closely tracks the industry’s response to our current emphasis on “green construction.” This means we are very knowledgeable about the latest trends and regulations affecting the construction industry in general and the log home industry in particular. We put this knowledge and experience to work for our clients as we do our own product development and design, and we put this knowledge to work for our clients as we advocate for building guidelines and expectations that lead to continuous improvement in log home products and building processes. Participating in this organization helps us stay on top of the ever changing expectations for “green” construction. Ask us how we can make your home “green.”
